L.M.モンゴメリが1926年から35年にかけて暮らした、オンタリオ州ノーヴァル村にある郵便局だった建物が今危機に面しています。1836年に郵便局が設置されたこの建物はノーヴァルでも大変歴史のあるもの。それなのに、現在の所有者がこれを破壊して新しいビルに改築したいと許可願いを出したのです。それに対し付近住民は建物保存運動を繰り広げています。
カナダにて20世紀初頭に活躍した「グループ オブ セブン」と称される有名画家たちのひとりAlfred Joseph Cassonはノーヴァルに暮らしましたが、この郵便局の建物や通りを描いた作品も残しています。また、モンゴメリもこの郵便局を頻繁に利用していました。原稿を出版社に送ったり、膨大なファンレターを受け取りに出かけていたのでした。

昨日の朝は５時半起床。5時半にマルセイユの空港へ向かい。ミュンヘン経由でトロントに戻ってきました。我が家のドアを開けるまでの全行程、16時間半要しました。
さて、時差ぼけからか、午前３時に一度目が覚めたものの、実際に起きたのは6時。「さー、クロワッサンでも買いに行くかア」と思って、がーーーん！トロントのベーカリーが開くのは早くても９時か10時です。南フランスでは早朝から開いているから、朝一番のほかほかパンを楽しんだのでした。
来週から職場に戻ります。がっくり。

Today I met my co-worker Frances and her husband Richard in Cucuron where they are staying during their vacation. It’s very strange & wonderful to meet someone I know in a different country! Cucuron is a charming town, having an old church and clock-tower.
The town view is quite different from Puyloubier’s where I’m staying.
